Oak-effect laminate flooring in a bedroom

Laminate flooring, tough and good value

Convincing wood-effect boards with a tough, scratch-resistant surface. Laminate is great value for hallways, living rooms and busy homes with children and pets.

Laminate · Bradford

Why choose laminate?

Modern laminate looks remarkably like real wood, with realistic grain and texture, but its surface is far tougher. It resists scratches, scuffs and fading, which makes it ideal for the busiest rooms in the house.

Laminate is rated for durability on the AC scale. For most homes we recommend AC4 or AC5, which stand up to heavy everyday use. Many ranges now also have water-resistant surfaces and sealed edges.

What to look for

  • AC ratingAC4 and AC5 boards are built for heavy domestic traffic, from hallways to family rooms.
  • Board thicknessFrom 8mm to 12mm. Thicker boards feel more solid and sound quieter underfoot.
  • Water resistanceMany ranges now cope with everyday spills, so they suit more rooms.
  • Realistic finishesEmbossed textures that follow the grain for a natural wood look.

Laminate: your questions answered

What does the AC rating mean?

The AC rating measures how well laminate resists wear, from AC1 to AC5. For most homes we recommend AC4 or AC5, which are built for heavy everyday use.

Laminate or LVT: which is better?

Laminate has a very tough surface and is great value for living areas and hallways. LVT is waterproof and is softer underfoot, so it's often the better choice for kitchens and bathrooms.

Is laminate good with pets?

Yes. A good laminate has a hard-wearing, scratch-resistant surface that copes well with pets.
